One Week to Make Sail

The hold is bursting with enough stores to keep us hale and hearty for the long voyage ahead; gundeck lockers are locked and loaded; Bonnet has procured copious amounts of victuals, cured and pickled to remain unspoiled for months. We will still need to make occasional stops to stock up on perishables—and drinking water for those who inexplicably refuse to take the easy road and live on rum—but by and large, I reckon we are fit for sea.

Could we postpone departure? Certainly. There is no such thing as the perfect time to leave the safety of the harbor. There will always be something we must leave behind. Unfinished business we cannot but leave pending.

But we are pirates. The siren call of adventure proves more powerful than any obligation or land-tethered duty. And frankly, seeing the growing numbers of aspiring crewmates hoping to join us on this journey, I am more inclined than ever to catch the next tide without further delay.

The Sirius is aching to cast off. And so am I.
