Captain Whitelock
Full name: Morgan “Whitelock” Brabec (age 40 at the start of Fugitive)
“Alcohol numbs the pain, my dear.”
Captain of the Sirius and Pirate King of the Five Seas, Whitelock is known far and wide as the fearsome scourge who took over the title of Pirate King from the disgraced Captain Basil in 1872. Under his command, pirates from all Four Quadrants united to wage some of the most celebrated battles the world has ever seen, culminating in the fall of the former Temenian king or the exile of the Dorian Imperial Family.
Seeing his placid figure nowadays, however, such a bloody portfolio defies belief. There is nothing Whitelock enjoys more than a good carousing on his ship, a long bath in his private lavatory and a full bottle of high-quality rum. Except, perhaps, the occasional one-night skirmish at a local brothel. Not the kind that would stain his pristine broadsword, though.
First Mate Johan
Full name: Johan Jeong (age 28 at start of Fugitive)
“I don’t forgive those who distract me from my purpose on this ship.”
Forced into a life of vagrancy from a young age, Johan didn’t take much to realize his best bet back then was a life at sea. Highly educated and imbued with strict moral values, one could make the mistake of thinking him much too straitlaced and used to certain comforts to find his place in a pirate ship. But Johan’s burning ambition and resilience easily made up for any shortcomings.
Thanks to his high intelligence and innate skills, Johan soon surpassed his mentors, and nowadays he is not just the Sirius’ First Mate, but also its navigator, provost, and willingly shoulders captainship responsibilities whenever Captain Whitelock is incapacitated—which happens to be quite often.
Medic Loïc
Full name: Loïc Dupont (age 30 at start of Fugitive)
“We are nothing but a contemptible bunch of hypocrites, aren’t we?”
Loïc always knew he would grow up to be a medic. His grandfather was a family medic, his father was one too, and he never doubted he would one day follow their footsteps. What he never foresaw was that he would end up practicing aboard a pirate ship due to circumstances beyond his control.
Calm and composed on most days—despite the occasional snap at his loudest and most frequent patient, Cyrus—Loïc has the medical knowledge of a vademecum and the body strength of an ox. That, coupled with the fact that he might just be the only crewmate that never steals from Whitelock’s secret whiskey stash, makes him a greatly valuable asset.
Boatswain Bonnet
Full name: Bonnet (?) (age 25 at start of Fugitive)
“We all have our dark sides, and pasts we’d rather leave behind.”
Boatswain Bonnet is in charge of keeping the Sirius well stocked and its deck crew in line for the smooth operation of the ship, but it is no secret that what he really likes to do is lock himself up in the galley and spend long hours cooking all sorts of recipes—both familiar and new.
A man of few words, Bonnet is not known for his warmth and kind disposition on the best of days. But beyond the veil of detachment hides a clever, keenly observant crewmate with razor-sharp animal instincts and a divergent view of the world rooted in his wild origins.
Lookout Cyrus
Full name: Cyrus Millbrook (age 23 at start of Fugitive)
“Fear? Dunno what that is.”
Orphaned at an early age, Cyrus never exactly stood out for his intellect or charming manners, nor did he ever care about that. He’s always been proud to be the way he is, and couldn’t give a damn about what others thought of him. Until a meek cabin girl popped into his life and changed it.
Known as the infamous dual wielder among pirate circles, Cyrus scouts the horizon from the crow’s nest for endless hours and wields his longsword and dagger with unmatched skill whenever needed for two clear reasons: 1) to amass wealth, and 2) to keep Liz safe. Nothing else matters to him.
Cabin Girl Liz
Full name: Elizabeth Robin Jenkins (age 19 at start of Fugitive)
“I know what it’s like, feeling cornered, and suffocated, and under constant threat. I’ve been there.”
Liz used to be a normal girl. Very normal. She spent most of her time behind the bar of her family pub in the little town of Merino, helping her parents make ends meet and caring for her two younger brothers when needed. Until one day, in the middle of her shift, she accidentally got stuck in a barrel and loaded into a pirate ship.
What started as a nightmare eventually turned into a whole new life for Liz. Aboard the Sirius, she rediscovered herself, found a use for her drawing talent, and fell in love. And thus, she left Merino behind and remained a Sirius crewmate. And she knows she did the right thing. Even if her family does not quite share that opinion.
Gunner Stumpy
Full name: Alain “Stumpy” Corbin (age 48 at start of Fugitive)
“*Burp*”
Stumpy is an odd man, with an odd number of arms and and odd number of eyes. His whole body is marred by burn scars, yet far from fearing fire, he seems to have developed a strange, mystical connection with it. Thus, he is Whitelock’s prime choice to handle all of the Sirius’ cannons and explosives.
Being a mute, one could think Stumpy incapable of forming rapport with others. Nothing farther from the truth—the Sirius crew loves his charming repartee of fireworks and belching. And his mysteriously deep bond with Luke certainly goes beyond words. Even if no one can quite tell exactly why.
Deckhand Luke
Full name: Luke Meyer (age 18 at start of Fugitive)
“Life is much too exciting around here to think of that. Let’s just have fun.”
Luke is the youngest crewmate in the Sirius. Yet, in spite of that (or perhaps more accurately because of that), he is a bit of a loose cannon. Quick to blurt out whatever is in his head without much thought, his no-filter attitude can be off-putting to some. Not to the crew, though. That is why, to him, his paltry quarters at the Sirius are better than any luxury accommodations.
Keen apprentice and even keener carouser, Luke lives life with a carpe diem attitude, happy with whatever life offers him, enjoying the excitement and the adventure, and looking away from anything that could sour his fun-filled days. He knows, however, that the time will come when he’ll have to pull his head out of the sand. Even if his best friend Stumpy disagrees.
Apothecary Rhein
Full name: Rhein (?) (age 22 at start of Fugitive)
“Fire is my playground.”
At heart, Rhein is a fairly level-headed, loving person. She likes to laugh, and flirt, and play, and share silly banter with friends and family, just like anyone else. Unfortunately, though, it’s been a long time since Rhein last had the chance to be herself.
Besieged by threats everywhere around her, Rhein ambles around lost in a world of danger, desperately trying to achieve what most people try to escape: a normal life. Yet instead, she finds herself on a pirate ship, where life is anything but normal.
But Rhein is resourceful. She finds her way onto the ship and into the hearts of its crewmates, all the while never forgetting her goal. And she will stop at nothing to reach it.
