Praise for Tales of the Sirius

(Let the love shine bright!)

"If you love pirate adventures, you will easily love this book. The crew of the Sirius is easy to love and easy to read about. The story is written in multiple POVs of the crew, but it is always easy to tell whose POV we are on. This is a very easy read - let Captain Whitelock and his crew take you on this adventure. I cannot wait for book 2."

WHITELOCK: By all means, my lady. I’ll be delighted to give you a personal tour of my ship. You come at the perfect time—I just recarpeted the Captain’s Quarters!
LIZ: … Please don’t leave us, Emily 😭

CYRUS: There. See, doc? I told ya all that bickerin' would pay off. Folks enjoy the banter, see? Now you can quit shushin' me all the time and claimin' I show signs of gonorrhea.
LOÏC: (Sprays his tea across the table.) ... The word is logorrhea, Cyrus.

"Such an easily lovable group of characters, an addictive writing style that’s action packed, humorous, and yet has an emotional pull. One big thing I really loved and applaud the author on is how obvious the love/research that went into this book. A lot of terms thrown around and actions to further back up how realistic it seemed.”

JOHAN: I appreciate the praise, but I fail to see how accurate maritime nomenclature is worthy of such acclaim. It is the least one can expect from a seafaring novel, isn’t it?
L.A. WAVES: (Dabs at bleeding corneas after another maritime-research marathon.) Sure, mate.

"I haven't read many pirate books, but this one was fun but had a lot of series elements too. I thought this was well written with amazing characters and the cover of this book is stunning!!!"

“This book was honestly imaginative and cleverly written, from a stowaway to something more, with the risks that come… I recommend for those who enjoy adventure, bonus points if you love pirates!”

"Such a fun read! This book totally had me hooked; it was action packed from beginning to end and I found myself breezing through it. The story was so engaging and each of the characters were so distinct, I absolutely loved the crews’ dynamic. The changing POVs and fun storytelling made the entire experience feel almost cinematic!"
4.25⭐ - Emily Hopkins, The StoryGraph (read full review)

LUKE: Fun is my specialty! You can always count on me to lighten things up around the ship.
BONNET: …Yer the only talkin’ character who didn’t get a self-POV scene.
LUKE: … 😭

Tepid Reception

(Because not everything is good news.)

"This was such a fun adventure of a story~
We got to know the crew through their povs and each felt like their own unique self. Even when the pov switched it was very easy to stay on track, leaving no confusion of which pov we were getting. The characters are all very well written, leaving you interested in all their backstories / life stories.
It was very easy to just sit back, relax and enjoy the adventure this crew took us on~"

3⭐ - Byul, Goodreads (read review)

"Such a fun read!!
This pirate adventure has everything you could want: quirky but loveable characters, found family and serious sea action.
This is a good start to the series but I hope some characters are more fleshed out in the next instalment. Some of them feel one dimensional. I also hope we learn more about Rhein’s culture.
I’ll be reading the second one!"

3⭐ - Laurie Dumas, Goodreads (read review)

(Crew exchanges blank looks.)
LUKE: Um... What exactly is it that garnered us only three st...MMMPH!
LIZ: (Gagging Luke with a napkin.) Three striking and VERY good points, we can extract from these lovely reviews! Maybe even more! Isn't that wonderful, everyone?
(Crew nods uncertainty.)

Full Broadsides

(Yes. There is ALSO some of this.)

"I don't know what this book is about. I know who it's about: pirates. I know where it is: on the map at the front. But why is it? We have a motley crew on a ship that are sailing around doing things for undisclosed reasons. The most prominent character is surly and standoffish for undisclosed reasons. The first mate apparently likes her for unfathomable reasons. The ensemble scenes are supposed to be quirky, but it's like reading a transcript of The Three Stooges in that it doesn't translate well to the written page.”
1⭐ - Allison, Goodreads (read full review)

(Crew exchanges shocked looks.)
RHEIN: Are we...under attack?
(Stumpy flicks his lighter and reaches for one of the chaser cannons. Luke flails at him in alarm. Grunting irritably, Stumpy douses the sparking fuse with a gob of spit.)

WHITELOCK:  Must I repeat myself? (Uncorks a bottle and takes a savage gulp.) Our hull can withstand this and much more.
LOÏC: (Casts an uneasy glance at the aggregate.) I'd argue about "much more", Captain.
JOHAN: ... I'm inclined to agree with some of the content. Unfathomably.
RHEIN: Oh, shut up.
